All those kids in one school…really makes you think of the potential untapped manpower. I think you should have thrown in that they were going to make the kids work to earn their keep. (They call it a co-op at RIT and other colleges. It’s valuable work experience.) Perhaps they could be farmed out for farming (those strong young shoulders could pull a plow) or loaned to the gas companies, helping to pump poisonous liquids into the ground. It could be both community service and a science project. If they get sick (-something could spill), it could be a BOCES hands-on nursing experience.
The school marching band would be sure to win at Sherburne – or would they then be disqualified (as some would be from Sherburne)? The theater dept. would be large enough to tackle epic productions like Ben-Hur or The Ten Commandments (-no shortage of extras). And sports… the best of the best for all teams, but who would they play?
The funniest part to me was that I thought I missed reading the punchline of another April Fool’s article. Maybe the front page news about “tapping” the trees. It sounded like there was a joke there.

Maybe your leg-pulling can be about a doctor…
pulling legs. Something more obvious and less topical for those missing a funny bone.

What’s funny is how many gullible people actually believed this. I overheard two women talking who were all upset about their kids having to change schools. It was hysterical to listen to them go on and on about it.

You are right Melissa, and we did check the facts. In online or printed versions, April Fool’s Day stories DO have a place in the newspaper. Just not the first thing you see on the website front page headlines “Breaking News”!

When I first read this under “breaking news”, only about 1/3 of the story was printed on your web-site, so there was no way of telling it was a joke. The fear this must have instilled in those that are already panicking over lost jobs due to our new state budget had to have been horrible. Some things just aren’t meant to be laughing matters. Very poor taste Evening Sun.

Tmax – your newspaper buddy should check his facts. Newspapers around the world have been staging April Fool’s Day “stories” for years. It should have been obvious to anyone who read beyond the lead that the story was a hoax. FYI – the piece didn’t run in our print edition, only online.

Now I appreciate a good joke just as well as the next guy – but when I started reading this, I thought to myself – Wow, this paper is starting to turn into crap. Then I realized that it had to be some April Fool’s joke and I thought – can they publish stuff like this in the headlines??? I then forwarded it to someone I knew who works for a newspaper, and he replied “absolutely not, not even as a joke”.

I thought it was great, and didn’t catch on untill the very bottom!! it seems a lot of people have their panties a little too tight these days to appreciate a good joke these days!

Most people would know this was an April Fool’s joke. Only problem is, it involves Albany. Those fools are capable of just about anything.

Alas poor Melissa, you scourged them well.

Possibly you could warn your disreaders of impending humourousness.

Maybe they need to be humorlashed more often.

I thought it was an excellent piece. April Fool’s Day should come once a month.
