I agree with Mr. Sands, please give this article to the higher powers of the school district. My two sons who are now adults, gained so much from participating in these music programs, not only in high school but also with Mr. Kirsch in grade school. Also with Mr. Franklin in the art department. All of these played a very important part of my son's life. Both of my sons played cello with Mr. Sands, which led them to learn how to play the keyboard, guitar and even the accordion. Both were involved with the musicals in grade school and high school, it gave two shy kids confidence to be in front of the public and has played a major part in their adult life. One son was in choir and one in jazz band. Both of my kids were in orchestra also. My oldest son was also very involved in art, and art still plays an important part of his life. Because of these programs and the wonderful teachers they had, they are two very rounded adults who both have very good careers.

Brian, I wish I knew about the High School Band then. I am a big Pat Metheny fan, and would have really enjoyed the concert.
Sounds like Mr. Burke was a great mentor to you.
I always like your newspaper articles, especially the music related ones. Keep up the good work.

Great article on the band Brian - - Go Purple!!

Listening to you play Hendrix, Clapton, Stevie Ray AND Methany (... mixed in with some great BG licks :-) was indeed a pleasure, as was the experience of having you in the program! Thanks for the kind words!

Nice blog Brian! The marching band fills a major role in the community, and your testimonial speaks to that. And by the way, that Metheny show was one incredible show, and group of kids who performed it!

Mr. Dimon, the band director, sent an e-mail to all band members suggesting they read this blog.

Any chance you could send this to the Superintendent and NHS principal?
Thanks.

Brian,
My brother Todd Hensley said you were a great guitar player. Although he has played for years, he never got involved in band in school, unlike our younger brother Andy, who of course was a drummer. My daughter is now a percussionist in the pit band - she's the tall girl in the picture of the pit cart in the newspaper.
