Even when going about my routine day and suddenly stumbling upon a playing I believe in honoring the anthem by at the very least taking a moment to observe silently, hat in hand, standing and with eyes to the flag. A lot of people seem disenchanted with the tradition. It’s not just about being a patriot but showing basic respect for all the sacrifices that allow us to take so many things for granted.

The only taboo that could possibly trump offering such respect is when a source of authority demands it be mandatory.

However, I wish that you would come to a Norwich Swim Team Meet. As the entire Norwich Team sing “God Bless America” at the opening of all home meets. I have attended all of the meets from the beginning. They do a wonderful job without any backup music; just their own voices and their music-ability. I do agree there are always people not looking at the flag and doing other gestures. But anyways the respect is there for our Country.

THere is a home meet Thursday Januaryth starts at 5:30PM.
