I know it SOUNDS humane, but every feral cat you feed will be healthier and breed more feral cats. These will be directly responsible for the gruesome deaths of songbirds. North American birds did not evolve with small mammalian predators like cats. They are sitting ducks (so to speak). Especially newly fledged birds without the flight feathers to escape. Cats do not belong outdoors. When will we learn.

There are much worse things for your father to do with his time.
I applaud him & the Cat Lady.
I am also guilty of being a cat person.
I feed strays all the time, and I take the ones that I can get into a cat carrier to get their shots, spayed or neutered, etc.
I have found permanent homes for 7 adult cats & about 2 dozen kittens–the pregnant ones always come to my house just moments before giving birth it seems–over the 14 years that I have occupied my currrent house.

I would like to let everybody know that, to me that is. that cats are people too. I feed the strays all the time. I have two cats of my own. I cannot see any animal without at least a home or something to eat during the winter. I used to fix up boxes with blankets in them to help them keep warm. Until my landlord said no more!!
I even try to help out other people too. By leaving them with cat food at the end of the month when times are getting hard.
To me cats are the one thing that I really love. You can talk to them, sleep with them at your feet,or feed them with the food you hope that they will like.

God bless her! It pains me to see cats- or any other animal- run loose, My cat MOOSE stays indoors- as ‘out’ as he gets is the back porch. I was helped a while back by a lady who runs a sort of ‘kitty homeless shelter’. I was out of cat food and needed litter. This woman, at HER EXPENSE mind you, bought me enough litter and food to get by until I could afford to get my own.
