Having been a rape victim myself, and BLESSED to have not received an invoice for services to add to the physical, mental, psychological and social pain I feel SO badly for those women. A victim relives their ordeal over and over in their minds and hearts. The LAST thing they need is someone or something else to try to profit from these attacks. Dude from Texas, you should be ASHAMED to speak this way, and those around you should beware. Someone who could belittle the pain of a rape victim sounds like someone who would or already HAS made victims of others at some point in their lives. May God have mercy on your soul.

The information is all there in black and white. This isn’t a bash Texas blog, I just felt something like this was worth pointing out.

Yes, the woman in the article was a victim, but no where in the article did it say that she didn’t own a gun or that she was incapable of defending herself. If someone is planning to attack you, they generally plan to catch you off guard. The woman in the story was a single mother with young children. If she’d had a loaded gun within reach, it may have kept her from being a victim, but it also may have caused an entirely different sort of tragedy.

I don’t see how this article can be used as an argument for gun rights.

If a woman is raped and can afford it she should be paying the bills? Try being a woman who has to be forced to re-live every single second of being attacked. Having a gun is NOT going to take that away from her. Being harassed by collections and hospitals to “pay up” is NOT the way to handle being a victim. And if you read her column CLEARLY, which you obviously had not, you would see this has nothing to do with guns. It has to do with the idea of not being protected as a victim of rape.
Perhaps Jessica should provide you with the article she read so you can provide your tangent that author? She never once made any accusations about your precious state (so relax) she read an article that was written about incidents in Texas.
So get off your soapbox.

I live here. I do not know where you get your info. But at least in the area I live in this is a false accusation. Sometimes a bill is sent in error. Depending, most of these bills can simply be ignored and will correct themselves. However in the case described a simple reply is sufficient to end the problem. In any case, if the Lady can afford it she should pay it. Why should the taxpayer do it? Why should others pay it in higher health bills. If the lady is unable to pay it there are many sources that will help. The hospital itself will tell one about these sources. I am a man and a sheepdog. I am very sorry i could not be there to protect you from this wolf. This is the reason that you should learn to protect yourself. I am in no way blaming you for causing your own trauma.
