I also have “won” to add to your list of misspellings and improper uses of words. When the Evening Sun refers to “hay bails” in the future, I would love it if they would use “hay bales” instead since there is no such thing as a hay bail! (“The hay bale bailed water out of it’s leaky canoe.” or “How much water would a hay bale bail if a hay bale could bail water?”) Send this one on to your editor if you would like!

Hi Jessica;
It’s hard enough to get immigrants to learn some english, but it is amazing when 12 years of schooling in the Chenango County area produces so many illiterate people. Can they get a refund from the schools? No; But I do know they do except checks!

I should tell you Jessica, those signs on the gas pump at Hess: “We no longer EXCEPT checks” are all over.

The same error is on the stickers at the Hess in Oneonta, the other Hess on the South Side of Norwich, and the Hess in Binghamton. I’m not sure if they are anywhere else.

It’s ironic that you get the point the article is trying to make as shown by your example, but then comment “If you can’t spell…” It appears that in this case, and in your own example, it was the grammar you should be focused on.

Sorry, there, Jessica, but I need to correct that final sentence of paragraph 2, where you wrote, “but I hope no one shoots the cute, little deer.”

Clearly, you meant to write: “butt I hope know won chutes the cute little dear.”

Right?

Kidding, hon. I’m totally with you on the signs. If you can’t spell, don’t write things that will be seen in public.

And last night on the local news, one of the footers along the bottom of the screen, short handing the headline, had an apostrophe s to make a word plural. Big mistake. I yelled at the tv.
