Speaking of gas

Okay I know it is the same story new day type of argument but over the weekend I decided I would jump on the bandwagon of those of you who have complained about the price of gas time after time.

It started Saturday…

I headed to Oneonta, did my shopping and like usual looked down to see the gas gage signal either fill me up or walk home button so I decided it was time to pull over and pay the hefty wage.

Hess stations as usual carried a price of $2.95 while others all said an average of $3.05. The lines at Hess were about two cars short of causing an accident and I figured it would be embarrassing to run out of gas while waiting in line to get some. I thought about it and decided I would just leave and get gas at the last station on my way from Oneonta to Morris. I pulled in and the sign read $3.09 but I figured oh well I only need enough to get back to Norwich for now so I began to fill up.

Meanwhile at this point in my day my hair was frazzled and my nerves were shot after taking a one and three year old car seat shopping for the afternoon and by the time I pulled up to the pump the three year old had covered himself in chocolate that I so stupidly gave him and demanded to have his jeans changed while still in his car seat. So as I pumped away my loyal passenger fought long and hard with my three year old to get him to calm down and get his jeans changed.

I pumped the gas and headed inside to pay. I have a bad habit of paying with everything with my debi card and have not carried cash in over a year and Saturday was successfully the first time it has made a difference.

I wait in line behind five slow others while the one woman working waits on everyone in the store and get to the counter. Then my ears start to twitch because she says “oh wait I have to convert this to credit card price”. I say “huh” she says well you see the price of gas is actually $3.18 a gallon it is only $3.09 if you pay in cash.

WHAT!! You must be kidding me… now not only do we have to empty our bank accounts to pay and arm and a leg for gas they are penalizing you for not carrying cash! What is wrong with people? As I drove out with smoke still coming from my ears I looked up to see this itty bitty little tiny weeny sign next to the $3.09 sign that reads “cash price” COME ON! my eyes are good and I couldn’t even see that.

Well I am sick of hearing about the price of gas too, because there is not much we can do except scream about it as we pull up to the pump day in and day out but I thought I would enlighten all you drivers about watching what the price actually reads before you pump no matter if there are screaming toddlers in your backseat or not.
