I run into rude people as well; but instead of worrying about the few rude ones, I tend to compliment the nice ones. I'll have to say that there are some very nice store employees here in Norwich. Rite Aid for example often have very friendly and helpful employees as does P&C. P&C doesn't offer the lowest prices in town but their cashiers are friendly and quick.
Maybe reconizing the ones who are great employees will spur some of the rude ones to change their behavior.
